"Heat nation" ?????? Really loser Miami Heat Coach? (No, I'm not going to look up his name, that's how ridiculous this is.) Really? OFFICIALLY sick and tired of hearing every fan base referred to as a NATION. It was cute when th RedSox did it because, well, shucks, they hadn't won in so long. It makes NO sense. I will be part of the Canucks fan base, but not part of their so-called "nation"...can we agree this is the stupidest use of a word ever?!?!? Ta-Ba-Nac!!!
At the very least, can we reserve the use of "Nation" in sports to fanbases of teams that travel really well? Or that have people spread all over the country? For example, in the CFL, only the Roughriders get to use this. There is no Alouette nation. No one outside of Montreal cares. The Riders have fans all over western Canada and have turned the last two Grey Cups into quasi home games.
In the USA, RedSox, Yankees, Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, Patriots*, Packers*, Lakers, Celtics. End of list. Patriots and Packers are on the edge. Using the "nation" tag for any other team is beyond ridiculous. Using the word is stupid as it is, but using it for teams who carry zero interest nationally is annoying. I can't believe the guys on TSN and ESPN have to use it all the time. It must drive them nuts!
